When I first came to Juliet, I was a young sales/marketing professional just out of college. I was still hanging on to the makeup trends that I picked up while away at school from all my friends and from the media. (The black eyeliner on the entire eye, trendy/seasonal colors, lots of gloss and shine, and lots of bronzer) I read some of her articles on women in the working world and how having the proper "look" will help you. So I went in to her to have my consultation and 5 years later, I am still 100% dedicated to her skin care and make up line. I never received so many compliments after first changing my makeup. Some of my friends questioned me a little as to why I wasn't wearing bronzer anymore or other little things. But, Juliet gave me the confidence in my own beauty and I knew that how I was now wearing my makeup was the best way for me. I have since brough many clients, both young and old to experience her transformation of bringing the true beauty out in you. That means not covering it up with pounds of make up in all the wrong colors like the makeup counters at the department stores would like you to do. She teaches you how to truly look like you, but still wear make up. I love her and her staff immensely and can't thank them enough for making me always feel so beautfiul and helping me break away fromt he media trends of makeup.

Subject: Covers

One of the things that stands out for me as a Designer, is being acutely aware of the fact that there is not a single mass market magazine with a woman's image on the cover that has not been massively digitally manipulated.

What does this tell our young women? That anything short of manufactured perfection as dictated by the fashion industry is not to be tolerated?

Subject: As a 24 yr old

Before I started working for Juliet, my idea of beauty was everything I saw in magazines. This idea became especially profound when I moved to L.A at the age of 17. All the girls at my high school would practically starve themselves when lunch rolled around eating nothing but yogurt. They were soo thin. I thought to myself I will never be as thin as them, I started feeling very insecure. So, I began cutting out almost most everything in life that is enjoyable. No pasta, gym everyday....and I mean everyday, no filling lunches only salad. I was 17!!!!! I didn't have to do that! Looking back on that time for me now I can't believe it. I soon realized this is not for me, its actually not even attractive to be super thin. A young woman with curves is beautiful!!!!!
Tanning is another issue. Why do girls think being really tan is cute, I mean I was very guilty of that but now I realize your natural skin color is really beautiful. As a teenager we would have contest who can get the tannest. So I would go to tanning booths, use the special tanning creams, beach all day, bronzers, the whole nine. It goes back to what young girls see in magazines. Everything I saw was the bronze look, but the part of all of this that is distorted is that the pictures are touch up, skin was darkened. We didn't know that, so we did it the real way which was extremely dangerous...premature aging and cancers. Working with Juliet has taught me that who I am and what I already have is what I should be focusing on and not comparing myself to the distorted message that the beauty industry dictates today.
